A ceremonial film premiers in other cities

On 28th-30th September in Lodz (at Cinema City), in Krakow (at Cinema City) and in Wroclaw (Helios) ceremonial film premier took place. Before the premier in each of the cities, press conferences had been organised. The conferences were attended by the film director Jerzy Hoffman, the film producer Jerzy R. Michaluk, the President of Zodiak Jerzy Hoffman Film Production Mariusz Gazda, author to film shooting - Sławomir Idziak, screenwriter - Andrzej Haliński, sound designer - Wacław Pilkowski, II production manager - Jerzy Szebesta and the on military items (horses and arms) - Tomasz Biernawski. Special guests at the conference were as follows: Borys Szyc, Wojciech Solarz, Andrzej Szopa and Jarosław Boberek. The film was enthusiastically welcomed and appreciated.

An organiser of the tour was the film distributor - Forum Film Polska.

a ceremonial premier of the movie 1920 battle of warsaw

On Monday, 26th at 5:45pm at the Grand Theatre – National Opera, a ceremonial premier of the movie was held. The President of the Republic of Poland was the guest of honour at the very event. The other guests included also the representatives of the Polish Army, Episcopacy, media and the personages from the world of movie and show-business. Jerzy Hoffman – the film director, Jerzy R. Michaluk – the producer as well as Mariusz Gazda – the President of Zodiak Jerzy Hoffman Production, welcomed their guests in the foyer. Mrs Iwona Schymalla – the Director of the 1 TVP Programme opened the whole ceremony. Jerzy Hoffman invited the participants of the event to watch the movie. Mr Mateusz Morawiecki – the President of the Bank Zachodni WBK gave a speech. Te film was awarded with a standing ovation of the audience. Mrs Iwona Schymalla invited the movie creators to the stage and introduced them to the audience. At the end of the official part, the Director of the Polish Film Institute – Mrs Agnieszka Odorowicz invited Mr Jerzy Hoffman to the stage where the title of the Polish Historical movie king was conferred on him. Then she gave him a ring and a crown. The premier was broadcast live by TVP.

The screening of a film was crowned by the banquet.

The same evening, at 9:30, at Arkadia Cinema City, the movie show was held for 1300 guests. Among them, there were the film director Jerzy Hoffman, film producer Jerzy R. Michaluk, the President of Zodiak Jerzy Hoffman Film Production - Mariusz Gazda, screenwriter - Jarosław Sokół, film set designer - Andrzej Haliński, military costume designer - Andrzej Szenajch, expert on military items (horses and arms) - Tomasz Biernawski, actor Zdzisław Szymborski, production manager - Paweł Bareński et al.

premier of the “The history of the movie, the history of the battle”

On Monday 19th, September, at the Museum of the Polish Army in Warsaw, at 6pm, a celebration took place due to the premier of the “The history of the movie, the history of the battle” which presents the film shooting from the set by Krzysztof Wojciechowski. The pieces of the text were read by Ewa Wiśniewska and Borys Szyc. The co-organiser of the event was Bank Zachodni WBK – the Patron of the film.

the media movie show

On the 19th September, i.e. Monday, at 12.00, the media movie show at Cinema City Galeria Mokotów took place. The hall number 430 was full of people. Then, at 2pm press conference was held with the movie creators’ participation. The conference was graced with the presence of the film director Jerzy Hoffman, screenwriter Jarosław Sokół, author of film shooting Sławomir Idziak, film set designer Andrzej Haliński, composer Krzesimir Dębski, military costume designer Andrzej Szenajch, expert on military items (horses and arms) Tomasz Biernawski and the production manager Paweł Bareński. The conference was also attended by the following actors Natasza Urbańska, Borys Szyc, Daniel Olbrychski, Ewa Wiśniewska, Magdalena Smalara, Wojciech Solarz and Dariusz Kordek. The journalists asked them a number of questions. Upon the official part, the individual interviews took place.

the outdoor exhibition titled 1920 Battle of Warsaw

On Monday, 19 September, at 10 o’clock at the Castle Square - a ceremonial opening of the outdoor exhibition titled „1920 The Battle of Warsaw” took place. The film shootings, from the movie set, by Krzysztof Wojciewski were presented. The opening was graced with the presence of the film director Jerzy Hoffman, Jerzy R. Michaluk - the producer, Mariusz Gazda - the President of the Zodiak Jerzy Hoffman Film Production, Andrzej Haliński - film set designer et al.

COMPLETION OF WORK ON COLOR CORRECTION

10th of August, Sławomir Idziak DOP has begun a work on image color correction. The work was finished on 7th of September.

FILM SCREENING FOR TVP

31st of August, film screening for TVP took place in Cinema City Galeria Mokotów.  Guests came out from the screening in melting mood.

SECOND PRE-RELEASE SCREENING

29th of August, second pre-release screening of mixed movie with subtitles and end credits took place in Cinema City Arkadia. The guests of the ceremony were investors, Polish Film Instiute, Ministry of Defence and invited audience.

COMPLETION OF WORK ON SPECIAL EFFECTS

18th of August, Collection and adoption of special effects done by ATM FX took place in ATM studio.

DOLBY 5.1 SURROUND EX mixing is accomplished

10th of August, approval and acceptance of DOLBY 5.1 SURROUND EX mixing took place in Studio TOYA in Łódź. Director Jerzy Hoffman, Composer Krzesimir Dębski and Producer Jerzy R. Michaluk were present.

The meeting with Jerzy Hoffman in TOYA Studios and Wytwórnia Club in Łódź

On the 3rd of August 2011 Toya Studios and Wytwórnia Club organized open meeting with Jerzy Hoffman and movie creators in connection with duration of work on mixing the movie.

People who come from Łódź and local media were present on the meeting.

Special guests were: Jerzy Hoffman – director, Mariusz Gazgda the board president of Zodiak Jerzy Hoffman Film Production, Jerzy R. Michaluk – producer.

Sound creators were also present on this conference: Wacław Pilkowski (sound designer), Aleksandra Pniak (sound II unit), Kacper Habisiak i Marcin Kasiński (Dreamsound Studio) – sound post-production, Piotr Knop (Toya Studios).

The meeting took place in a very pleasant atmosphere. The numerous gathering of journalists and residents of Łódź asked questions regarding the cast, film budget, 3D technology, film premiere and anecdotes from the shooting period. The producer thanked the journalists and residents of Łódź for favour and interest of production. The director invited the participants to the see the film which world premiere will take place on the 30th of September.

On the 28th of July 2011, the show of the first three mixed movie acts took place in the Cinema City in Galeria Mokotów. Acts were adopted by director Jerzy Hoffman and producer Jerzy R. Michaluk.

dolbydigital sound mixing

On the 18th of July 2011, we have proceed to work on the DOLBY mix. This mix is taking place in Toya Studios, which was the first sound studio in Poland to adapt to mix movies in 3D technology (projector Barco 2K). We are planning to work on DOLBY mix for four weeks.

Wacław Pilkowski (sound designer), Aleksandra Pniak (sound II unit), Kacper Habisiak i Marcin Kasiński (Dreamsound Studio) – sound post-production, Piotr Knop (Toya Studios) are working on the sound mixing.

THE SCREENING FOR THE OWNERS OF THEATRES

On Wednesday, 6th July 2011 at 12 noon, a meeting was held in Cinema City (Galeria Mokotów, 12 Woloska Street) between the film distributor, representatives and owners of the cinemas in Poland. After presenting the „raw” version of the film, there was a time for snack. The guest of honour at the meeting was Jerzy Hoffman. The guests were given the press material on the movie. The aim of the meeting was to start financial negotiation with regard to the film distribution in the territory of Poland.

THE FIRST FILM SCREENING FOR MEDIA WILL TAKE PLACE ON THE 19TH OF SEPTEMBER

The producer announced the first movie show for media. It is to take place on September 19th in Galeria Mokotów and it shall be preceded by the press conference with the director, producers and the actors. On the very same day, premiere of the photo album presenting the film shooting is planned. The album is titled “The history of the movie, the history of the battle.” The photographer was Krzysztof Wojciewski.

Forum Film Poland is the distributor of the film. After the ceremonial premier in the Great Theatre (26th September 2011) and in Arkadia (the same day, an hour later) the premier shows are to take place in the biggest cities of Poland, i.e. Łódź (28.09.), Krakow (20.09) and then Wroclaw and Poznan. We will be able to see the movie “Battle of Warsaw 1920” in cinemas on 30 September 2011.

THE PRESS CONFERENCE ON THE OCCASION OF recording illustrative music to the movie “1920 BATTLE OF WARSAW”

On 15th June 2011 in the Studio Koncertowe named after Witold Stanisławski of The Polish Radio S.A. at 59 Madalińskiego Street, Warsaw, a press conference was held on recording illustrative music to the movie by the Sinfornia Varsovia Orchestra conducted by Krzesimir Dębski. The journalists had a unique chance to have a closer look to the work of the eminent composer and one of the most reputable orchestra in the country and all over the world.

Jerzy Hoffman, the film director as well as the main characters of the movie Natasza Urbańska and Borys Szyc were participating the conference and answering the journalists’ questions.

The song that is to promote the film, was initially called by Jacek Cygan – author of the lyrics, “Śpiewka 1920” (“Folk song 1920”). The music for the latter was composed by Krzesimir Dębski.  Natasza Urbańska and Borys Szyc are to perform it. At the conference the composer described the couple as “The best Polish duet.” Krzesimir also stressed that he wanted to keep the piece in a traditional concept, so with beautiful, simple melody, but at the same time he wanted to make it modern and with a huge striking power, hence Radzimir – Krzesimir’s son was entrust with the arrangement.

The journalists and the guests were given a chance to listen to the piece of the “Śpiewka” performed by the father and son duet – Dębscy.

 EMI Music Poland President – Mr Piotr Kabaj informed that the CD with illustrative music and single were published and the video clip to the music is being recorded with the leading men.

The other guests at the conference were the following: Mr Mariusz Gazda – the President of Zodiak Jerzy Hoffman Film Production and the producer Jerzy R. Michaluk. Mr Mariusz Gazda who said: "I was always lucky to meet great people, and this time was no exception.  I’m pleased and honoured to be here today."

The final phase of recording the synchronous effects

Is nearing completion on the synchronous effects, which began in early May and were recorded in a studio PRO-TON led by Krzysztof Jastrząb.

MEETING WITh THE PUBLISHING HOUSE "NOWA ERA"

12 and 14 April 2011 in Krakow and Warsaw, in Cinema City, Wydawnictwo Nowa Era – publishing house, and Forum Film Poland distributor, organised a meeting with the teachers of Polish language and History. Its aim was to present multimedia educational materials on “The Battle of Warsaw 1920”for students of gymnasiums and high schools all over the Poland. The guests of honour at the meeting were the creators of the “Battle of Warsaw 1920” movie: Jerzy Hoffman - director, Natasza Urbańska - actress, Andrzej Haliński – film set designer, Andrzej Szenajch – costume designer and Tomasz Bierawski - – expert on horses and military items. Using 3D technology, a trailer of the movie was presented at the meeting as well as the documentary movie “Battle of Warsaw 1920 using 3D Technology” directed by Hanna Poland and Rafał Pogoda. The film revealed behind-the-scenes of the “Battle of Warsaw 1920” by Jerzy Hoffman.

Sound recording to the movie dialogues

On 28 March 2011, in Warsaw, 7 Wołoska Street, sound recording to the movie dialogues has been completed in the SDI Media studio. Postsynchrones were performed by the leading men: Daniel Olbrychski (Józef Piłsudski), Natasza Urbańska (Ola), Borys Szyc (Jan) and the supporting actors. Aleksander Domogarov (Kryszkin) and Olga Kabo (Sofia) – Russian actors, arrived from Moscow to Warsaw also to record the sound to the movie.

Pre-release screening of the film with the authorities of the Polish Film Institute

4 April 2011, in Delapost – post production office, in Warsaw (6 Wynalazek Street), pre-release screening of the film took place with participation of the authorities of the Polish Film Institute which co-finances our movie production.

Recording the illustrative music

15 June 2011, in Warsaw, in Polskie Radio S1 and S4 studio (the building of TVP by Woronicza Street), at the time of recording the illustrative music by Sinfonia Varsovia Orchestra conducted by Krzesimir Dębski, the press conference will be held with the actors and film creators.

Movie in the theaters

The film is going to be popularized from 30th September 2011, (Friday). It will be possible to see it in every cinema all over the Poland with the use of 3D stereoscopic technology. Forum Film Poland is the film distributor.

Movie Premiere

26 September (Monday) 2011, in the Grand Theatre of Warsaw, ceremonial premiere of the movie with participation of the creators and actors of the movie shall take place. The President of the Republic of Poland, Mr. Bronisła Komorowski; Prime Minister Donald Tusk; member of the government of The Republic of Poland as well as the representatives of the Polish Episcopate are to honour the premiere with their presence. The film is going to be screen using stereoscopic 3D technology.

Premiere of “Battle of Warsaw 1912” trailer using 3D technology in TVP HD!

On the first day of Christmas on TVP HD (date and hour to be confirmed) there will be a premiere of “Battle of Warsaw 1920” trailer. For the first time in the history of public television we will have to do with broadcast of the film using 3D technology!

Moreover, documentary film “Battle of Warsaw 1920 using 3D technology” by Hanna Polak and Rafał Pogoda will be presented.

After the movie we will see a discussion with Jerzy Hoffman – director of the feature film “Battle of Warsaw 1920” and with Sławomir Idziak - cinematographer, and with performers of the main characters: Natasza Urbańska and Borys Szyc.

Premiere of the documentary film “Battle of Warsaw 1920 using 3D technology” on TVP Kultura, TVP Historia and TVPHD

Premiere of the documentary film “Battle of Warsaw 1920 using 3D technology” took place on 11 November 2010 at 9.50 pm on TVP Kultura.

 

The film revealed behind-the-scenes of the first Polish feature film made in three-dimensional technology. It involves interview with the director Jerzy Hoffman and Sławomir Idziak - author of film shooting. There are also comments and remarks of all the representatives from nearly all departments and sectors as their work had immense influence on the final form of the movie. The creators will share their comments on the latest technical solutions applied in the film and challenges they faced. Actors such as Natasza Urbańska, Borys Szyc, Daniel Olbrychski and Bogusław Linda also shared their thoughts about the film.

 

Patronage of the film is held by Bank Zachodni WBK.

Another transmission of the movie took place on TVP Historia, 12 November, at 6.00pm and TVP HD, 13 November, 10.25pm.

“Battle of Warsaw 1920” film stills exhibition held in the Museum of the Polish Army to celebrate National Independence Day.

On 11 November 2010, at 4 and 5 pm, in the Museum of the Polish Army in Warsaw there was an opening of film stills exhibition from “Battle of Warsaw 1920”. Their authors were Ryszard Wojtyński (responsible for the special effects in the film), Wojciech Glinka and Krzysztof Wojciewski (fine art photographers who took the pictures while shooting the film.) The exhibition was held in order to celebrate National Independence Day 1918 – 2010 and was a significant item both in terms of history and education. The main slogan was “To touch the Independence.” The event was organised in cooperation with the Office of the Capital City of Warsaw.

The special guests at the exhibition were the creators of the film, director – Jerzy Hoffman, Daniel Olbrychski – performer of First Marshall Józef Piłsudski, film set designer - Andrzej Haliński, costume designer - Andrzej Szenajch and expert on military items (horses and arms) – Tomasz Biernawski. The visitors had an opportunity to talk directly to the creators of the film. The interest in the exhibition was tremendous. At the end of the event, Mr Jerzy Hoffman and Daniel Olbrychski signed autographs. An opening of another ceremony scheduled for this evening in the Museum was delayed due to the crowd of visitors and a long line of inhabitants of Warsaw awaiting to get an autograph.

Celebration after completing film making

On Sunday, 3rd October 2010, in “Opera” club in Warsaw (1 Plac Teatralny Street), at 5pm the celebration was held in order to celebrate completion of works on the film. Among the participants there were film directors, creators, actors and friends of our own production without whom this film would not come into existence. The event was hosted by Paweł Sztompke – journalist for Program I Polskiego Radia (radio channel).

 

The host welcomed the co-owners and board members of Zodiak Jerzy Hoffman Film Production – film producer Jerzy Hoffman – originator and co-owner of the studio, Presidents: Mariusz Gazda, Jerzy R. Michaluk, Piotr Polaszczyk and Tomasz Olszewski.

 

Then Paweł Sztompke welcomed the representatives of Bank Zachodni WBK – patron of the culture and patron of the movie: Aleksander Szwarc – Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Bank Zachodni WBK and Mateusz Morawiecki – President of Bank Zachodni WBK. It is them who from the very beginning supported our production and concept of the film.

 

Ministry of National Defence delegates were also warmly welcomed. They were thanked for their logistic support and means of products when creating the movie.

 

The following guests were also given warm reception: Jarosław Sokoł – co-screenwriter, Sławomir Idziak – cinematographer and his cameraman’s department, Andrzej Kotowski - who supported the work of Jerzy Hoffman and lead directorial sector, Andrzej Haliński – screenwriter along with his creative sector, interior designer – Mrs Wiesława Chojkowska, Andrzej Szenajcha – military costume designer and Tomasz Bierwaski – expert on horses and military items.

 

 

Special warm welcome was directed to the actors Natasza Urbańska, Borys Szyc – the leading men, Daniel Olbrychski – performer of First Marshal Józef Piłsudski, Ewa Wiśniewska, Ewa Wencel and Magdalena Smalara.

 

After the official welcoming part, the director Jerzy Hoffman and the producer Jerzy R. Michaluk thanked the entire crew and all the friends of the film for their work which made it possible to create the one of the first in Europe and first in Poland feature film using 3D technology.

 

The guests could see the crew’s pictures and films by Wojciech Glinka on large outdoor screen. First fragment of the film was also presented.

 

Celebration of eightieth birthday of Wiesława Chojkowska was a very nice item on the programme. A huge birthday cake was brought to the hall and everyone could try it.

 

After the official part has finished, at around 10 pm, grand party and dance began and lasted till the crack of dawn.

Completion of film making

Filming of the feature film “Battle of Warsaw 1920” by Jerzy Hoffman was completed in Warsaw on 30 September (Thursday) 2010, at 20.35. According to the schedule, the filming took place from 29 June till 30 September 2010, where 65 days were devoted to shooting the film using the stereoscopic 3D technology. The film crew visited Modlin Fortress, Open Air Village Museum in Lublin, Nowa Sucha – Węgrów County, Piotrków Trybunalski, Zamość, Komarów by Zamość, Warsaw and a training ground in Zielonka and Kazań. Work on the film passed off in a pleasant and friendly atmosphere. On the set, while filming hard battle scenes, there were no unhappy accidents.
